1. Our Standards
Pretty Good Group is a media company based in Los Angeles and New York. We own and operate three publications: Must Do, for things to do and city guides; The Bantr, for culture and news; and Place Notes, for places worth knowing. Most of what we publish lives on social media and in newsletters.
Our goal is simple: to be useful, accurate and honest with our audience. We want people to trust what we recommend and to always know when something is paid for. These guidelines aren't a rulebook for every situation. They set out the principles our team follows, and we'll update them as our publications and platforms change.
2. Accuracy and Corrections
We work to get things right before we publish. That means checking facts, dates, prices, addresses and details against reliable sources wherever we can.
When we get something wrong, we fix it. Depending on the platform, we may correct a caption, update a post, add a note, or address the error in a later newsletter. If a mistake is significant, we'll be open about the fact that we corrected it.
If you think we've made an error, email hello@prettygoodgroup.com with a link to the post or newsletter and a short note on what needs correcting.
3. Sponsored and Branded Content
Brand partnerships, sponsored content and newsletter advertising are how we fund our work. We think partnerships can be valuable to our audience, as long as they're honest.
Paid content is clearly labelled. Depending on the platform, you'll see labels such as "Paid partnership," "Sponsored," "#ad" or a similar disclosure.
Newsletter ads and sponsored sections are marked so readers can tell them apart from our editorial content.
We aim to work with brands we believe are a good fit for our audience.
We follow the disclosure rules of the platforms we publish on and applicable advertising guidelines.
4. Editorial Independence and Conflicts of Interest
Advertisers and partners don't control our editorial coverage. Buying an ad or sponsoring a post doesn't buy a review, a recommendation or a place in our editorial content, and it doesn't stop us from covering a company or topic.
We ask our team to avoid situations where personal relationships or financial interests could affect what they publish. When a potential conflict is relevant to a piece of content, we'll either disclose it or have someone else handle the story.
5. Sourcing and Attribution
We rely on a range of sources, including our own reporting and visits, official information, other publications and the people we feature. When we use someone else's reporting, we credit it.
We care about crediting the people whose work appears on our channels:
We credit photographers, videographers and creators whenever we feature their work, and we aim to get permission where it's required.
If we've used your work without proper credit, or you'd like it removed, email hello@prettygoodgroup.com with a link to the content. We'll review it promptly and add a credit or take it down as appropriate.
6. Photos, Video, AI and Image Editing
We want what you see on our channels to reflect reality.
We may make standard edits such as cropping, color correction and brightness adjustments, but we don't edit images or video in ways that mislead.
We don't present staged or altered images as real events.
If we use AI tools, for example to help with brainstorming or production, people on our team review the result. We won't present AI-generated images or text as real reporting or as genuine photos of real places, people or events.
7. Gifts, Comps and Press Trips
Covering things to do, places and culture sometimes means being invited to experience them first.
We may accept invitations, complimentary meals, tickets, products or press trips so we can consider them for coverage.
Accepting an invitation doesn't guarantee coverage, and it never guarantees positive coverage.
When something we feature was provided for free and that's relevant to our audience, we'll disclose it.
8. Affiliate Links
Some of our content may include affiliate links. If you buy something through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships don't decide what we recommend, and we'll disclose affiliate links where they appear.
9. Community and Comments
We want our comment sections and communities to be welcoming. We encourage conversation and disagreement, but we may hide or remove comments, and block accounts, that include harassment, hate speech, spam, threats, misinformation or personal information about others. We may also report content to the platform when it breaks that platform's rules.
